1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. localStorage is a browser-based storage mechanism that allows websites to save key-value data locally on your device. Both technologies help websites remember information about your visit, such as your preferred language and login status.

Peeka mostly uses your browser's local storage (localStorage, and sessionStorage, which is cleared when you close the tab) to keep the service working. We set five HTTP cookies of our own: one that keeps you signed in, one for referral attribution, one for friends who join a clip made with a friend, and two for campaign codes (the code and a device ID). We don't use advertising cookies.

2. What We Store

3. Third-Party Cookies

Stripe: When you make a payment, Stripe (our payment processor) may set cookies on your device to facilitate the checkout process, prevent fraud, and comply with financial regulations. These cookies are governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.

We do not use advertising cookies, third-party analytics, or tracking technologies that follow you across other websites. Our own usage statistics (the peeka_device_id entry above) stay on Peeka and are never sold or shared.

4. Your Choices

You have control over the data stored on your device:

Clear localStorage: Open your browser's Developer Tools (usually F12), navigate to Application > Local Storage, select peekaai.com, and delete individual items or clear all data. Alternatively, use your browser's "Clear Site Data" option in Settings.
Block cookies: You can configure your browser to block cookies from specific sites or all sites. Blocking the peeka_ref cookie only prevents referral attribution from being recorded; blocking peeka_session means you can't stay signed in.
Important: Clearing the peeka_session cookie signs you out, and clearing other essential items can make the site forget where you were. The service needs these items to work properly.

5. Data Protection Compliance

In accordance with applicable data protection law:

Essential storage: We rely on legitimate interest as the legal basis for essential localStorage items, as they are strictly necessary for the service to operate (e.g., maintaining your session, enforcing usage limits).
Functional and statistics storage: The peeka_ref cookie is set only when you open a referral link, and peeka_attribution only records how you first arrived. Our cookie notice tells you about this storage; it does not switch anything on or off. You can block or delete these items in your browser at any time, which only stops referrals, sources and usage statistics from being recorded for you.
